ABSTRACT
Prostate cancer is the leading cancer in older men. When prostate cancer is detected early, it is potentially curable by radical prostatectomy. Androgen ablation therapy is the primary treatment for metastatic prostate cancer. However, most prostate cancer patients receiving the androgen ablation therapy ultimately develop recurrent castration-resistant tumors within 1–3 years after treatment. The median overall survival time is 1–2 years after tumor relapse. Chemotherapy shows little effect on prolonging survival for patients with metastatic hormone-refractory prostate cancer1. It is considered a serious health problem world wild and despite continuous evolution in its therapies, many men still suffer from its devastating consequences. Natural products (garlic and propolis) interventions prevent the growth of cancer cells in prostate and suppress the progression of its malignancy. Applying novel effective preventive and curative measures to combat prostate cancer is required to reduce health care cost, morbidity and mortality associated with this kind of cancer. Among these measures for combating prostate cancer are dietary bioactive agent’s supplementations and measurement of serum novel biomarkers for early diagnosis and screening of prostate cancer.
