Medicinal Importance of Tinospora (Tinospora Cordifolia)

ABSTRACT
Tinospora is a valuable shrub and widely used in Ayurveda and Unanai system of treatment. It belongs to family Menispermaceae. It is rich in minerals, alkaloids, steroids, flavonoids, lignans, glycosides, sesquiterpenoids, aliphatic compounds, essential oils, mixture of fatty acids and polysaccchrides. Tinospora is known as panacea for all the diseases and disorders as it is used in the treatment and curing of many diseases and also used in multiple drug formulations. It possess many health boosting properties such as anthelmintic, anti-arthritic, anti-periodic, anti-pyretic, anti-pruritic, aphrodisiac, cardiotonic, carminative, bitter tonic, blood-purifier, diuretic, expectorant, anti-diabetic, anti-gonorrhoea anti-emetic and anti-icteric. Many medicinal properties of Tinospora which were being used since ages are now scientifically proved and accepted by medical practitioners.
