Health Fitness and Physical Activity Education: Specific Exercises Used in Teaching Somersault Skills and their Effect on the Landing Level in the Front Somersault Skill with Hands on Platform

ABSTRACT
Background: Specific exercises are used to As a practical application to improve health fitness and physical activity of adolescents. Objective: This research aimed in identifying the health aspects of using the specific exercises on the quick front forward somersault with single mounting, the slow forward somersault and the slow back somersault in female students. Subjects and Methods: The experimental method was used by designing one experimental group based on the pre- and post-measurements. The study sample consisted of 18 randomly selected participants. The 12 weeks training program was implemented, with 3 training sessions per week. . The program was applied in 4 – 6 groups with 12 – 18 repetitions. Rest times were identified according to individual differences provided that stretching exercises are done during the positive rest period, which ranged between 2 to 2.30 minutes between groups. Results: There was a statistical significant effect of the specific exercises on the improvement of the performance level of somersault skills studied here. The use of specific exercises in teaching somersault skills on the floor exercises apparatus led to an improvement in performing the skill of jumping by a front somersault with the hands on the platform. The skills of slow front and back somersaults had the greatest effect on improving the control of landing from the jumping skill by a front somersault with the hands on the platform. The quick front somersault had the greatest effect on enduring the absorption of hitting the floor and the stability of landing from the jumping skills with a front somersault with the hands on the platform. Conclusion: It was suggested that training on similar skills on the floor will necessarily lead to an improvement in the level of performing other skills on the platform, consequently on other gymnastic apparatus.
